I mean, the characters in these books engage in behavior that is obviously wrong, but that behavior is in no way glorified. I haven't read the "50 Shades of Gray" books (and just hearing what they're about, I know I never will!), but that kind of gratuitous sex in books or movies completely turns me off.

Thanks for doing this link-up. I don't belong to any book clubs; but this feels like an on-line book club, in a way. I can't wait to read it! I'm in awe of you for being able to write it while being a homeschooling mother of 6--and for getting an endorsement from Jim Gaffigan!!! That is the coolest thing. :)Laura Pearlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16108081477711821273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932448625116124069.post-68826540234039412262013-11-06T12:21:22.668-05:002013-11-06T12:21:22.668-05:00I have never heard of One Day. I don't really see how one can have a plot without sin of some kind, and sometimes those sins happen to be sins of the flesh. Well rounded characters are flawed characters. Thanks for the reviews!Jessicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10926262795822397466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932448625116124069.post-79456861984240269952013-11-06T12:12:52.196-05:002013-11-06T12:12:52.196-05:00Did not realize that One Day was a book first; wil...Did not realize that One Day was a book first; will have to seek that out.
Thanks!Joyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08553760391176072177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932448625116124069.post-46550468672559032672013-11-06T12:11:10.697-05:002013-11-06T12:11:10.697-05:00I loved Atonement too! Your review has made me want to re-read it (and I never do that, I think because there are so many books I want to get to and I only have one lifetime :)). I just can't keep with it. As for Atonement, I just loved the writing so much. But I've looked at the book jackets of several other novels by McEwan, and the subject matter didn't grab me--so this is the only book of his I've ever read.Laura Pearlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16108081477711821273noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7932448625116124069.post-47801058492659747572013-11-06T11:30:29.787-05:002013-11-06T11:30:29.787-05:00I was never able to finish Atonement. Rowling really comes into her own in the series and there are some wonderful gems and takeaways to be had. The early books are not only about young Harry but they're Rowling as a young writer too. Just in defense of her, because I think she really does get more towards a literature feel as she grows. I agree though, I am always looking to feel with a book and when I don't love it deeply I am disappointed. Madelinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17721349139975265768noreply@blogger.com
