The Feast of the Assumption

A note for my boys:

I hope you've all found a Mass you could get to today.  I'm sure you have, but I just thought I'd send a little reminder.  Your Mother (the Blessed Mother, that is) would certainly like to see you there!  (And Dad and I would, too.)

Love,
Mom
And now a note for Mary, my Mother:

Please keep my boys in Your loving care.  They're raising little ones, making cross-country trips by car as they head back to college, serving in war zones, preparing for the Sacrament of marriage, and getting ready to begin a new year of teaching high school students.  (The five of them aren't EACH doing ALL of these things, simultaneously...but You get my point.) They could really use Your help, Your protection, and Your grace.  I know You love them even more than I do, so I know I can count on You!

Love,
Me

(P.S.  And now a note for you, dear reader: if you'd like to see more posts dedicated to the Assumption, the faith-filled ladies over at Fine Linen and Purple are hosting a blog link-up in honor of Mary's special feast day.)

    1. Thanks, Kate. (D and I were just talking about you and Steve tonight...were your ears ringing?)

    2. Oh fun! They must've been :) Yes, we're heading up to Boston for a family wedding in a few weeks and really hoping to see your son while we're nearby. Perhaps you, too?!

    3. Great--if we're in town (we always seem to be on the road!). I have wedding showers to attend in VA on August 24 and September 7, and then we're going to the ND-Temple game on Labor Day weekend! So that's three weekends in a row I'll be traveling.

But if it's not one of those weekends, that would be wonderful! And I know Dan would love to see you.

  2. Hi Laura,
I'm a relatively new reader of your blog, and I do enjoy it. I'm from neighboring Vermont, although I grew up in New Jersey.
Anyway, as Kate noted, the letters are so sweet. You summed up what every mother's prayer should be to Our Blessed Mother, and I'll take note to use that formula when I'm praying for my little ones, too.

    1. Nice to "meet" you, Gail!

We pass through VT every time we drive to our hometown in Upstate NY. My husband's family home is right on Lake Champlain, with a nice view of the VT mountains across the lake.

When our boys were growing up (they're 20 to 29 now), my husband always prayed that Mary would fix any mistakes he might make along the way, because he knew She loved them even more than he did--and I've adopted his formula. :)

    1. I figured as much. :)

I'm sure they all made it--except maybe deployed son #4; but if he didn't, it was because it wasn't available over there (and I really hope it was).

  4. Me and Katie made it to mass yesterday too! And we actually went to a church activity afterwards called "Theology on Tap", which is held once a month at a bar and people drink while listening to a speaker talk about whatever is the topic of the month. It was very cool.

    1. That's my good boy--and girl! I knew you wouldn't forget. "Theology on tap"--cool idea; you know that saying, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." :)

    2. I used to go to Theology on Tap in St Paul! Good times.
